Promote Your Content with “Really Simple Syndication”

As more and more communication takes place electronically, newsletters frequently take the form of blog posts. But unlike a traditional paper newsletter, which is mailed to a list of addresses, online content is out there for everyone to read. Or, in some cases, for no one to read.

Every article you add to your blog or Web site should be well researched, authoritative and meticulously proofread. But once that is done and you click “publish,” the Internet offers no guarantee that your audience will see or read your post. An RSS feed can maximize the chances that your articles will reach the intended readers you want targeted.

Originally a more complicated acronym, RSS has come to stand for “really simple syndication.”  Your blogging platform or Web site should provide you with an RSS URL that you can then plug into your Facebook business page, Linkedin profile or other social media sites. Once the two are connected, your blog posts will automatically be published to the social media sites. The alternative, of course, is to manually add each blog post to each social media platform—a practical, but more time-consuming, way to share your content.

Several services make the RSS syndication even simpler. Some of the most used services include TwitterFeed and Google’s FeedBurner Socialize.

Don’t limit your readership to the handful of people who regularly visit your site. Use social media to promote your content to larger audiences. This will not only connect you to more people but will also improve your ranking on the search engines.
